Its Official....its all over now!
So today I became the parent of a teenager. We've been experiencing the moodiness for a few months now, but it will be interesting to see what will happen next. I have been trying to take a calm instructor stance with her. She is not me, she is never going to be me (in a good way) and I will strive daily to no make her feel inferior to her ever impressive, perfectionist mother.
No hair issues for the most part. My sister took her to have it braided and it has been great. We were getting concerned with her putting heat in her hair everyday. She's only lost 4 braids total. Not bad, since she has such soft hair.
When dealing with the younger sibling, I try to warn her to avoid conflict to begin with. She had still have the upper hand, but be creative with how she does it. Its going to be a long summer!

And Mall Be Its Name....
Today I dropped by daughter off at the mall to go shopping with a friend. Her friend is preparing for a trip to Europe....how she thought my daughter could help her is beyond me but I didn't want to keep Denyce from her friend. So we get there, and daughter didn't think to ask where we should meet, anyway we get there, I meet her dad and he takes off. I'm still unsure but I tell them to call me when they're done. There was no way in the world that I was going to leave the mall. I did my shopping, went walking then sat and waited. I tried not to overact thinking about the worse that could happen. Ninety minutes later the emerged from the store and all was well.
Whew I survived!!!!

As the world turns...
Daughter did great on her report card, 3 A's and 3 B's. Still some minor hair issues, wants her hair to be longer! Human nature...we are never satisfied.
Son on the mend, had an ear infection after recovering from a big cold. We finished all the antibiotics and with a little pain reliever he was quickly on the mend. I was glad, didn't want to spend another night in the ER. The staff was great but getting home at 2 AM and then not to bed until 4 AM was really rough.
Ah to be young again!

Hair we go again
Though things have been pretty calm, we still seem to have hair issues. She doesn't want it curled under or curly but she wants spirals. I tell her we'll just do some experimenting with rollers to try to get the look she "think" she wants. I don't understand why she can't find a website where she can upload her pic and then "try-out" different hairstyles until she finds one we both can agree on. I know there has to be a site like that out there. I don't have the time to find it...she's going to have to do some research, afterall this is her head we're talking about not mine. I'm happy with a wig, weave or extensions...shot I'll take some braids right about now!!
Glad I don't have these issues with my son! He just hate getting a haircut..I can deal with that.

Mommy, I have a broken heart
So a few weeks ago my daughter comes to me, when her dad is nowhere close to hear, and asks me "What do you do when you like someone and they don't like you?" Yea I wanted to cry for my girl! She tells me about the boy and the girl he is trying to talk to. I tell her about Matthew, how I liked in jr. high and how he liked my friend and not me. I let her do more talking to save me from having to give out "lame" advice. Hard to believe I have a 13 y/o on my doorstep. I will need to schedule a girl's day very soon. One of her friends has gotten her period....I pray things hold off until the summer.
My son is such a character. He had taken to calling boys, his friends and girls, his girl. If he wants something from you he adds the word "best" in front. He is just too much! My husband is really needs to tighten the reigns a little bit. I've noticed a level of disobedience that has the potential of getting out of hand in a bad way. I might have to schedule a mommy-son date very soon, because I want us to start kindergarten this fall on a good note and not me getting notes home.

I think you broke my nose...
It was back to school for the kids after a really wonderful and relaxing holiday. I still have a few days (kinda) to myself before I officially hit the books again.
My daughter seems to have made a tentative peace with her hair. We've been using some Gro-Treatment on it so help encourage the really short areas to catch up with the rest of her hair. I hope I can make an appointment for her to have it professionally wrapped and then we can maintain it...I'm just not a hairstylist even though I do know some things and can follow directions really good.
My son has be a bit concerned...not in too serious a way but still I am on high alert. This week I was putting him to bed and when I do storytime I like to give each character a different voice. Seems he didn't care for it and head butted me in the nose. He didn't (thank God) break my nose but there was some cartilage movement. My nose has been sore and I'm getting minor scabs (oh joy). Anyway I know his hanging around with older boys is what is influencing his more aggressive behavior and since he doesn't realize his strength he is hurting us who aren't ready for him. My headaches are better but I'm watching if I have to do a lot of swallowing and if I taste any blood. I gave him a stern talking to and I hope this is the last of any injuries for any of us for a long, long while.

Happy New Year! Mission 2012
My daughter survived her first Lock-In and boy is she feeling it now! Did very well, got involved and played a few games. We see so much "wrong" with our young people, it was refreshing to see a host of teenagers having a good time and loving Jesus while they did it.
My son is still a little under the weather. Praying he feels better soon before going back to school. I hate it when my Lego (name any video game here) partner is down.
Here's to the next chapter in parenting!
